The importance of air duct cleaning

Dealer-HomeownerHumidifier-sml.jpgNow that the holidays are over, it may be a time to give your home a deep cleaning.  You may notice that your register vents have accumulated an excess amount of dust.  And there could be more dust beyond the registers that you cannot reach with a vacuum.  The National Air Duct Cleaners Association recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years. Below are some things to consider before you schedule a professional duct cleaning for your home.

Duct Cleaning
What is duct cleaning?  Duct cleaning generally refers to the cleaning of various heating and cooling system components of forced air systems, including the supply and return air ducts and registers.  Dust, pollen, mold, bacteria and other debris are contaminants that can cause allergic reactions, or other symptoms in people if they are exposed to them. Methods of duct cleaning vary, although standards have been established by industry associations concerned with air duct cleaning. Typically, a technician will use specialized tools to dislodge dirt and other debris in ducts, and then vacuum them out with a high-powered vacuum cleaner.

Air Quality Control
Most people are now aware that indoor air pollution is an issue of growing concern. Many companies are marketing products and services intended to improve the quality of your indoor air.  If you have asthmatic family members, then a regular duct cleaning may be needed to protect them from allergy related symptoms from outdoor and indoor pollutants.

It is important to keep in mind that dirty air ducts are only one of the many possible sources of contaminants that are present in homes. Your HVAC evaporator coil, blower wheel, and air filter can also be thoroughly cleaned to improve the air quality in your home.  Contact Reese Services for the Reese Peace of Mind.  Reese Services also installs air purification/filtration products, and preventive maintenance agreements to keep your entire HVAC system running smoothly and more efficiently.
